Join us for the 4th Annual Wheeler Dodgeball Benefit Tournament for the benefit of Horizons Hampton Roads and other charities on August 13, 2011 at the Virginia Beach Field House. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (doors open at 8:00 a.m.) 2157 Landstown Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. Awards will be given for:
  • Tournament Champions in gold, silver and bronze (in each division)
  • Best team uniforms
  • Most clever team name
  • Tournament MVP (as decided by the referees)

*****4th Annual Wheeler Benefit Dodgeball Tournament Updates!*****
  1. Benefit Raffle – This year’s raffle is bigger and better than ever before. New this year, we are offering an Early Bird Special. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Carla Cross at 627-9088 or emailing at Carla@wheelerrec.com at a pre-event special price through Thursday, August 11. Your tickets will be held at check-in for pick up. Please open the attachment for prize details and ticket information. Raffle tickets along with 50/50 tickets may also be purchased the day of the event using check, cash, or PayPal.
  2. Team Check-in will take place at the Virginia Beach Field House from 8:00 to 8:55 am. Please arrive early. Directions to the Field House are available at http://www.beachfieldhouse.com/home/418712.html We would like teams to have their complimentary Team Photos taken prior to the opening ceremonies but their will be an opportunity during the opening ceremonies.
  3. Teams should gather on the courts, according to perimeter signage (alphabetical order by Team Name), no later than 9:00 a.m. for Opening Ceremonies including the introduction and parade of teams. Teams will have a brief opportunity for an appropriate theatrical display. Celebrity judges will evaluate team uniforms for originality and creativity. New this year, teams will be judged on their opening 30 second shtick. At approximately 9:30 am teams will be dismissed to their assigned courts for a brief review of the rules with court officials.
  4. Spectators are admitted free of charge. There are bleachers and plenty of seating at the field. NO need for lawn chairs.
  5. The Field House does not permit any outside food or beverage to be brought into the facility. You will be permitted to bring a water container which may be filled from the water fountains.
  6. Complimentary breakfast goodies will be available in the morning. Lunch, snacks, and drinks are available for purchase in the Full Moon Lounge. Sponsored teams have lunch and beverage coupons included in their T-Shirt bag.
  7. Rules of the Game may be downloaded at http://wheelerdodgeball.com/wp/rules/ Rule modification – Please refer to Section 2: Timing, Time-outs and Substitutions, article 5: During time-outs (one per game), teams may substitute players. Substitutes may be players who did not start the game but may not be players previously ruled “out” of that game. Substitutions must be of the same gender.
  8. Play – Each court will have two officials who will maintain control of the games. The rulings of officials are final. Please remember this is a game for charity and good sportsmanship is expected at ALL times. It will be the sole discretion of the referee to issue yellow (warning) or red cards resulting in a game suspension. Teams will be asked to stand on the sides of their court by their bench NOT behind play. Only players in play may retrieve a ball behind their end line and re-enter through the end line. Official ball retrievers will endeavor to retrieve errant balls and direct them appropriately.Teams should remain near their court as matches move quickly. Matches will be   best two of three sets (games) during morning Round Robin Play. Afternoon play following re-seeding will be single elimination brackets to determine Division Champions in Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
